elliptical galaxies
- These types of galaxies are the most ranged in size. They can be some of the smaller ones, but they can also be some of the largest.
- They usually have the older stars found in them because these galaxies don’t have much gas in them so new stars can’t be formed.
- Most of the time elliptical galaxies only have a few thousand stars found in them. Not all of the time though, some of them have billions of stars in them.
- In elliptical galaxies, stars are close together. Making the center of the galaxy look like there is just one large star in the center.
- Elliptical galaxies can be circular or long and narrow shaped
- In the core of an Elliptical galaxy there is thought to be a black hole holding them together.
- About 20% of galaxies are Elliptical.
- Elliptical galaxies are put into eight categories, based on their shape. E0-E7, E0 are the galaxies in the shape of a perfect. While E7 are the long and narrow shaped galaxies.
